The CW, one of the most prominent online TV programming companies has made an agreement with Hulu not for one year, not two years, but for five years. Both companies will collaborate with one another in the upcoming months, so it will be interesting to see what this association will reap eventually.
CW has gone into an agreement with Hulu, and both companies will collaborate on various projects later this year. Not just Hulu, but Hulu Plus is also going, to begin with, CW’s new series in the fall 2011 calendar: America’s Next Top Model, 90210, Nikita, Supernatural, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Hart of Dixie and The Secret Circle and the new Ringer Series.
If you don’t know as to who owns CW Television Network, then you will be surprised when you get to know about it, as Warner Bros and CBS Corporation own this amazing TV network. They both announced that CW Television Network is going to be in a 5-year license agreement with Hulu for streaming rights to the CW episodes on Hulu Plus subscription service. In addition, it will support Hulu service.
This agreement is unique in many ways because this agreement will make Hulu Plus the only online subscription service to have episodes of reality shows and drama that CW has to offer. The last five episodes of each TV programming will be available to subscribers the next day after they broadcast on the main network. Those who have opted for free ad-supported Hulu service can watch five episodes of the current season’s programming eight days after those shows are broadcasted on CW.
Mark Pedowitz, President of CW has given an interview in which he said, “Our new agreement with Hulu is going to add to the incredible value of the CW while augmenting the great power of the broadcast network model.”
He further said, “As we increase the number of original programs throughout the year on the CW, this agreement with Hulu is going to allow our programs much more visibility on a new platform, thus helping to improve the awareness that is going to bring back all the viewers to Hulu and its affiliated network. We see this agreement as a big victory for everybody involved such as the network, Hulu, the stations and not to forget, the viewers.”
Users will have more than one way of catching up on the reality TV shows and drama series that is broadcasted on CW under this new agreement that the company has made with Hulu. The network gets a platform to promote itself and do off-air marketing in order to grow its brand along with improving awareness of its series. The content that is available on CW can be broadcasted online by the cable providers authenticated by the company.
The CW has come up with a unique digital convergence strategy for online content streaming and advertising, and the company is going to display its programming on its official site, i.e., cwtv.com with additional advertising prior to releasing the free Hulu service.
