Fixing Controller and Black Screen Issues In 1st Generation NVidia Shield TV

NVidia Shield TV 1st Generation is currently being used by hundreds of thousands of people. The first model was released in 2015 and there were two models, i.e., 16 GB and 500 GB models. Today, we are going to discuss some of the most common issues in NVidia Shield TV 1st Generation along with their solutions, so keep reading the post.

Issue 1: Controller won’t connect to the Shield

If your NVidia Shield Controller is not getting connected to the Shield, then you can take help of NVidia Shield Controller support, or follow below-mentioned steps:

Shield turned off

Check your NVidia Shield TV if it is working or turned off. It needs to be on in order to make it work with the controller.

Low batteries

Check the batteries connected to your controller. If the batteries have drained out, then the controller will not work. You must charge the controller and try connecting the same to the Shield. If the controller doesn’t charge, then the battery might be dead, so you will have to get the new battery. You can take help of NVidia Shield support if the battery is OK, yet the signal is not received by the Shield.

The controller is not synced

If the commands sent by you are not executed properly by the controller, then maybe the controller is not in sync with the Shield. You will have to touch and hold the power button on NVidia Shield until you see ‘connect accessory’ screen on the TV along with the flashing light on the device. The NVidia Shield controller is now going to connect within a few minutes. If the button didn’t flash at all, then the controller is not charged. You need to charge it.

Too many controllers connected

You need to make sure that there aren’t too many controllers connected to the device. The limit for one Shield is four controllers, so don’t connect more than four.

The controller is not updated

You need to update Shield controller because if it is not updated, then problems like this could occur. You can manually check this by going to ‘updates’ option, then ‘navigate to settings’, ‘about’ and finally, ‘system upgrade’.

Issue 2: Black screen appearing on TV

If you see a black screen on the Shield after you launch it with a message ‘No Output’, then you need to try the following:

Loose Cables

You have to check whether the HDMI is securely plugged into the right ports on both NVidia Shield TV and the TV. In case, you see a black screen after seeing the HDMI cable being plugged into the right ports, then I would suggest you choose a different HDMI cord, as the one you are using may not be functioning properly.

Damaged Ports

There could be the possibility that the port on NVidia Shield, which connects to the TV is damaged. If that is the case, then you will have to replace the entire I/O board, which is responsible for holding all the ports within the Shield. You can get in touch with NVidia Shield TV help and support provider to get rid of this issue.

Faulty Motherboard

If you have confirmed that the problem is not in HDMI cable, then it could be the motherboard that has become faulty. You need to replace that motherboard now. For that, consult NVidia Shield TV support because they are the ones who can help you in the best way.
